(Brampton)

Put chemistry to work in the lab and at the industrial scale.

Program Overview

Stand out with Sheridan

Sheridan's Chemical Engineering Technology advanced diploma offers education in both lab and industry areas, but stands out for its emphasis on true chemical engineering. Our strong focus on careers that involve complex, industrial-scale processes distinguishes Sheridan from other chemical engineering college programs.

Gain career-ready skills

In Sheridan's Chemical Engineering Technology advanced diploma program, you'll acquire a broad range of fundamental skills that include:

  • Instrumental analysis and analytical chemistry
  • Organic, inorganic and physical chemistry
  • Design and operation of chemical processes
  • Environmental science
  • Process control

Practical, career-oriented learning

Sheridan emphasizes practical, hands-on learning in laboratory settings and industrial environments. You'll work directly with state-of-the-art chemical engineering and laboratory equipment, providing you with the advanced skills that are sought after by industry.

Additional information

Chemical industries include pharmaceuticals, energy, plastics, paints, fuels, metals and food – an extremely broad range.

You'll also gain a flexible set of skills that apply across a range of chemical engineering career paths. Sheridan offers a tightly integrated suite of chemical engineering college programs and chemistry programs; you can easily transfer your Chemical Engineering credits to the Chemical Laboratory Technician, Environmental Technician, and Chemical Engineering Technology – Environmental programs. Some graduates go on to study chemistry or chemical engineering at university. Depending on the university, and the choice of program, they may receive transfer credits for their study at Sheridan.

On the laboratory side, careers are found in research and development, quality control, production support, and technical service and sales. On the industrial side, careers range from plant operations (using the latest in computer control systems) to technical sales and service for industrial equipment and chemicals. Chemical Engineering Technology graduates may work their way up to supervisory and management positions in both the laboratory and industry.

Graduates have completed all the academic requirements for professional certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT). Additional requirements for certification exist and are established by OACETT. Graduates are also eligible for membership in the Chemical Institute of Canada.

The program includes a work/study co-op option, offering valuable professional experience and contacts. Enrolment is limited. See Cooperative Education for details.

Chemical Engineering Technology courses are taught at the Davis Campus in Brampton, Ontario.

    Co-op

Students in this program may apply to the co-op program during their third academic semester. Enrolment in the co-op program is limited through an additional co-op application process that takes place during second year. Students in the co-op program are eligible to complete three co-op work terms prior to graduation. The program-specific academic standard required for participation in co-op can be found here: Academic Standards for Co-op and Internship.

Co-operative Education is a form of work-integrated learning that links classroom learning with paid or unpaid work experience within a professional environment. Co-op work terms are related specifically to the academic studies of each student. The work terms provide an opportunity to learn by doing. You’ll apply theory to practice, develop a meaningful view of the working world, and cultivate an awareness of yourself as a professional.

Students receive in-class and 1-on-1 career education support to help prepare for the work term. The co-op component is delivered by Sheridan’s Co-operative Education Office, which facilitates over 1,800 Co-op/Internship work terms per year Sheridan-wide.
