Sheridan alumni take home 13 Canadian Screen Awards
Several highly talented newcomers also added their names to CSA's prestigious honour list. Dr. Janet Morrison, Sheridan's President and Vice-Chancellor, recognized the winners for their dedication to their individual crafts and their commitment to excellence. "We are so proud of our graduates who continue to innovate and create across Canada's media landscape, bringing diverse stories to life, generating outstanding work and forging a path for future generations to follow," she says.
- Timothy Muirhead (Media Arts' 98), Luke Dante (Media Arts' 16), Kyle Peters (Media Arts' 08), Ryan Ongaro (Media Arts' 12) and Patton Rodrigues (Media Arts' 12) for Best Sound, Animation, for their work on PAW Patrol.
- Carmen Albano (Art Fundamentals' 96) and Joe Kicak (Advanced TV & Film' 08) for Best Children's or Youth Fiction Program or Series, Detention Adventure.
- Kicak received a second win for Best Visual Effects, again for his work on Detention Adventure.
- Ceréna Sierra (Music Theatre' 12) for Best Original Music, Comedy for Sort Of.
- Nigel Akam (Media Arts' 93) for Best Sports Feature Segment, Left Behind.
- Toni Stevens (Media Arts' 85) for Best Pre-School Program or Series, PAW Patrol.
- Michael Fukushima (Animation' 85) for Best Immersive Experience, The Orchid and the Bee.
Also honoured during the CSAs was the late Charles E. Bastien, a 1986 Animation graduate. Bastien received the Best Direction, Animation award, for his work on PAW Patrol. It was the third time he received the prestigious award during a career spent creating work that delighted audiences around the world.
The awards were presented in a seven-part series of genre-based virtual shows live streamed throughout Canadian Screen Week 2023 from April 11-16, 2023. Sheridan graduates received over 60 nominations this year, continuing Sheridan’s tradition of excellence in the arts. Our award-winning alumni from across the Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design have a long history of success at the Canadian Screen Awards and other top awards competitions including the Oscars and Emmys.
